I am excited to announce the arrival of many new breeding animals from around the United States. Please take a look at the new hedgies posted on the female and male pages. These new additions are bringing in new lines from Montana, Nebraska, and Indiana. We can't wait to see what they will produce with our existing lines this summer!
The new year is off to a great start with multiple litters born in March and April, however this is proving to be a year of mainly male hoglets. Maybe there will be more females this summer.
The early fall litters have been posted. Please note that during fall and winter litter success rates drop. Most animals do not have offspring during this time, and hedgehogs are no exception. We continue to breed during these months on the off chance that a breeding will take, but late fall/winter litters are not common.
The first litters of 2018 are due this week! Hopefully the sounds of little hoglet chirps will soon fill the nursery. Spring and summer are definitely the busiest times of year. Keep an eye on the upcoming litters page and available babies page for our most current announcements. More babies are due at the end of February and the March mothers will soon be visiting their favorite beaus. We currently have a waiting list for our hoglets. For more information on our policies and waiting list please visit out policies page.
Though we have autumn breeding announcements the litter success rates drop dramatically during late fall and winter. Most animals do not have offspring during this time, and hedgehogs are no exception. I very rarely have Christmas babies and only one litter has ever been born here in December. We continue to breed during these months on the odd chance that one will take, but late fall/winter litters are not common. It might not be spring until we have another litter. I do have a few adults retiring from breeding this fall. You can find more information about them on my available adults’ page. |
